Australia who have found back their form in the ODI World Cup 2023. They have had won a thrilling last match against New Zealand by five runs at Dharamsala. But ahead of their clash against the defending champions England, they would miss their star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. Maxwell was involved in a concussion incident after falling off the back of a golf cart. This is a huge blow for the five-time champions.
According to the reports, the all-rounder hurt himself badly while falling on his back. Maxi will be under concussion protocols for six to eight days. He has been a key member of the Kangaroos. The 35-year-old batter has scored 196 runs in six innings at an average of approximately 40 and a strike rate of 148.48. He has scored the fastest hundred in the ODI World Cup history, smacking a hundred in just 40 balls against the Netherlands.
Maxwell has picked just four wickets and the experience of playing in India will surely cost the balance of the Kangaroos. He gave an extra spin bowling option for the side with Adam Zampa the only spinner in the side. Cameron Green might replace the batter in the team for the clash against the reigning champions.
He's been honest with the information he's provided: Andrew McDonald
Australian head coach, Andrew McDonald said, "He's been honest with the information he's provided. He's doing fine, he'll start some light exercises today and we feel as though it will be a reasonably straightforward return to play protocol. Suppose the fortunate part was there was no other injury sustain which could have been a lot worse that it currently is."
"Think it rattled everyone to be fair once it came to the conclusion there was a concussion and he was going to miss a game. There was nothing untoward in the behaviour throughout the day, it was a clear cut accident and unfortunately it's compromised what we are doing as a team."
The match will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday.
