Team India will face Afghanistan in their second match of the ODI World Cup 2023 on Wednesday at the Arun Jaitely Stadium, New Delhi. India won their first match against Australia with runs coming from the bat of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, respectively. Both the batters ensured to keep their composure when India was struggling at 2/3. Kohli scored 85 runs in 116 balls and Rahul was unbeaten till the end with 97 runs and finished the game with a six.
Afghanistan, on the other hand, lost to Bangladesh at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. They did not get the best start to their campaign. The Afghans were bowled out for just 156 runs even though opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran gave them a good start early on in the innings. But they lost the momentum in the middle overs as wickets fell at regular intervals.
The pitch of Delhi helps the spinners and the relatively slow pitch. However, it behaved quite unnaturally in the game against South Africa vs Sri Lanka. On that very day, the pitch looked like a batting heaven. As the Proteas made the highest-ever total in the history of the mega event against Sri Lanka. It is expected to favour the batters due to its nature and shorter boundaries, potentially leading to a high-scoring game.
Rain alert in Delhi
There is no rain forecast in the match. The temperature is expected to hover between 35 degrees to 22 degrees Celsius. According to the forecast, the weather will be partly cloudy but with little to no chance of rain throughout the day. Fans can expect a full 50-over match for both sides. In case it rains in Delhi and the match gets washed out, then points will be divided between the two teams.
Shubman Gill will miss the second match as he is yet to recover fully from dengue. He missed the first match against Australia as well. Ishan Kishan has another chance to prove himself as the batter has played good knocks for India. India will hope to win their second game and get the momentum going in their way.
