Multan Sultans win by 5 wickets against Lahore Qalandars

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 has been a breathtaking one since its start. In the second game of the doubleheader, Multan Sultans defeated Lahore Qalandars (LAH) by 5 wickets on February 21. Shaheen Shah Afridi won the toss and elected to bat first. However, the defending champions did not have the start they needed, as they lost their star performer from the last game wicket-keeper Sahibzada Farhan for just two runs.

After the early wicket, Fakhar Zaman and Rassie van der Dussen kept the runs flowing in a controlled way. They stitched a partnership of 94 runs for the 2nd wicket before the latter was back in the pavilion after scoring  54 runs off 37 deliveries hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes. Zaman on the other hand played a knock of 41 off 36 balls. With the wicket of the left-hander, the run-scoring got slow, as they kept on losing wickets.

But a small cameo from Carlos Brathwaite of 15 runs off 8 balls helped them score 166/5. For Lahore Mohammad Ali and Usama Mir were the pick of the bowlers for the side, as the former picked two wickets in four overs of his spell giving out just 28 runs on the other hand the young leggie picked one wicket and gave 25 runs.

Iftikhar and Rizwan seals victory

In reply, Mohammad Rizwan's side again had a dismal start as their opener Dawid Malan went back for another zero and this time it was a first ball duck. They lost their last game star batter Reeza Hendricks also early. Then a decent partnership of 38 runs between Rizwan and Yasir Khan helped them cross the 50-run mark. The skipper played another important knock and scored another half-century. He was dismissed after scoring 82 runs off 59 deliveries, hitting 9 fours and 3 sixes.

In the end, Iftikhar Ahmed played the role of the finisher who scored 34 runs off 11 balls striking at a rate of 309.09 smashing 2 sixes and five fours in the process of the win.
