Lahore Qalandars faced the second consecutive defeat in the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2024 as they lost to Quetta Gladiators by 5 wickets in their second match. Qalandars played this match at their home ground Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Monday, February 19. The hosts’ skipper Shaheen Afridi won the toss and opted to bat first.

In-form opener and wicketkeeper-batter, Sahibzada Farhan scored a crucial half-century for Lahore, hitting 62 runs off 43 runs, with 6 fours and 3 sixes. Apart from him, the young middle-order batter Jahandad Khan smashed 45 runs off just 17 balls, hitting 3 fours and 4 sixes.

On the back of these knocks, Shaheen Afridi’s men managed to post a decent total of 187 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Akeal Hosein and Mohammad Hasnain bagged two wickets each for Quetta Gladiators, alongside one wicket each picked by Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Wasim, and Abrar Ahmed.

While chasing the target, the star opener Saud Shakeel played a crucial knock of 40 runs off 23 balls, with 7 fours and a six in the start. He also added an opening partnership of 69 runs with his opening partner Jason Roy, who scored 24 runs.

Apart from this, the youngster who stole the show was none other than the 22-year-old batting sensation Khawaja Nafay; he smashed 60 runs off just 31 balls, with 4 fours and 3 sixes. On the back of these vital contributions, the visitors comfortably crossed the line and chased down the total, scoring 188 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 19.1 overs; eventually, they won the match by 5 wickets to register the second consecutive win in the tournament and move to the top spot of the points table of the tournament.

Khawaja Nafay was awarded the ‘Player of the Match award for his match-defining knock in Quetta’s favour to beat the hosts in their backyard.
