Suyash Sharma of the Kolkata Knight Riders has caused controversy after attempting a wide ball to prevent Yashasvi Jaiswal from reaching a century during the match against the Rajasthan Royals on Thursday night at the Eden Gardens.
The incident happened on the last delivery of the 13th over, when the Royals were chasing 150 and only needed 3 runs to win. Yashasvi Jaiswal was playing at the other end, undefeated on 94, and Sanju Samson was batting against the spinner. Additionally, Suyash Sharma attempted to deliver a wide ball down to the leg side to end the game and prevent Jaiswal from scoring a century.
Samson, however, deftly thwarted the KKR spinner. In order to stop the ball from potentially going for four wides, the Royals captain was attentive and was able to get himself in the line to receive the ball before guarding it. Suyash even smirked after the event, pretty much stating his intentions. Jaiswal was still short of his century but was still unbeaten at 98. Jaiswal just managed to knock out a four on the first delivery of the 14th over to give his team the victory with 3 runs still needed.
What did Aakash Chopra say regarding this incident involving Jaiswal, Samson and Suyash Sharma?
Aakash Chopra, a former India opener, expressed his disgust with Suyash Sharma's strategies. The former cricketer and now commentator and expert took to social media to express his discomfort after watching this incident unfold during the match. He said, “Trying to bowl a wide to prevent Yashasvi from getting to his 100….poor taste IMHO.”
Chopra, nonetheless, did not find many admirers who agreed with him, therefore his opinions did not receive widespread backing. As an immediate response, Chopra argued that the same supporters who had been supporting Suyash might have changed their minds if a Pakistani bowler had done something comparable to prevent Virat Kohli from reaching his century.
Fans react to Aakash Chopra's bold statement regarding RR vs KKR match : -
Trying to bowl a wide to prevent Yashasvi from getting to his 100….poor taste IMHO.

You being an ex-cricketer and expert; have bigger responsibility than the fans to speak, write, and share what is 'right' for the game.

Instead of pointing out such things, you should set an example for others to know that ‘Personal milestones and Stats’ have no value. Yes we…
They were playing for the team and not for personal milestones.

Why not blame KKR for not scoring a few more runs to help the lads achieve their individual target runs 🤦🏻♀️
Slow claps 👏 to your beautiful mind
Sanju Samson was batting at 48*

Jaiswal was at 94*
Very bad of Suyash Sharma to not care about both batsman's milestones.
Actually it's all KKR fault.. they should have scored atleast 8 more runs.
And they say he is India's future 😏

1. If it was a deliberate try to bowl a wide & if it ended up as wide, it looked bad but I think Suyash didn't tried to bowl wide.

2. @cricketaakash sir, one interesting question, if Jaiswal would've crossed the line & Suyash would Mankad him, what would you say?
Just asking.
But don't you think Sanju also jeopardized the coming century of Jaisawal, as Sanju accelerated his innings in the last part, when only 30-32 runs needed, suddenly he went to 6th gear and did hit consecutive sixes, when Jaiswal needed 20-22 runs to reach to his century ?

How are people so sure that it was intentional?
— The Cricket Panda (@TheCricketPanda) May 11, 2023
Trying to get him stumped while he attempts the 6 holds more weight.
I don't understand this logic it's bowler choice.

Imagine team needed 40 run in 1 ball loss is sure.
And they are already 9 wicket down and bowler is on hatrick .
Will the last batsman going to give his wicket
purposely, if not then why should only bowler show gentleman game.
Why Aakash Chopra is so negative for young players until they start performing there is possibility that suyash thought Sanju might come out of crease so he bowled leg side …3 run was needed not 1 …

What more can bowlers do when the rules deprive them of bowling options.
— SUBRATA Dasgupta (@SubrataNow) May 11, 2023
I feel the four to 3rd Man or fine 3rd Man should be disallowed when a batsman heaves for a six at Long on or Long off and the ball ends up at 3rd Man
This has happened in international cricket in 2010 itself. Suraj Randiv bowled a deliberate no ball and denied Sehwag a century, so nothing new about it.
