After winning the last fixture against the four-time champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), KKR locked horns with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 68th fixture of the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Super Giants won the match by one run and Nicholas Pooran was awarded the Player of the Match award for his brilliant match-winning knock for his team.

If we talk about the encounter, KKR skipper, Nitish Rana won the toss and opted to bowl first. LSG while batting first scored a total of 176 runs with the loss of eight wickets after the completion of the first innings. The highest scorer of the side was Nicholas Pooran who scored 58 runs off 30 balls with four fours and five sixes in his innings. Their wicketkeeper-batter, Quinton De Kock score crucial 28 runs which included two sixes in his innings.

The pick of the bowler for KKR was Vaibhav Arora, Shardul Thakur, and Sunil Narine. Each of the bowlers snapped two wickets in their respective spells where they conceded 30 runs, 27 runs, and 28 runs respectively. One wicket each was grabbed by Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy in their respective spells where they conceded 21 runs and 38 runs respectively .

I think it is impressive that our bowlers are standing up to the challenge: Nicholas Pooran

While chasing a target of 177 runs, KKR were able to score only 175 runs with the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs. The highest scorer for the side was Rinku Singh who played an unbeaten knock off 67 runs from just 33 balls with six fours and four sixes in his innings. Their opener Jason Roy scored crucial runs in just 28 balls which included seven fours and a six in his innings.

"I knew I had to take it as deep as possible. When the spinners were bowling, I knew they'll give me bad balls and this was a small pitch. I've been batting well throughout the tournament, and I pride myself to play in such situations. The time has invested heavily in me and these are the ways that I can repay them," Pooran was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation.

"Ayush (Badoni) and I had that partnership against Chennai as well. I was confident batting with him at the crease. I think it is impressive that our bowlers are standing up to the challenge, they have done it in the last two games. We have a young bowling attack and to come to Eden Gardens and defend that kind of total was amazing," the left-hand batter asserted.
