Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Riyan Parag has slammed a breathtaking ton in East Zone's clash against North Zone in the ongoing 2023 Deodhar Trophy Round 3 match at the CAP Ground 3 in Puducherry on Friday. The innings came from the batter when his team needed him to perform under pressure when East Zone had suffered a top-order collapse.
The Assam-born player arrived at number six when East Zone was 57/5. He joined with wicket-keeper Kumar Kushagra (98), and the duo added 235 runs for the sixth wicket. The 235-run stand between Parag and Kushagra was the maiden double-century partnership of this season.
Riyan Parag shines under-pressure
Riyan Parag made a brilliant century of 131 runs in just 102 balls. During this inning, he smashed 11 sixes and 5 fours. Parag has given a befitting reply to his critics with this century innings against the North Zone. Opener Abhimanyu Ishwaran, scored (10), Utkarsh Singh (11), Virat Singh (2), Subranshu Senapati (13), and skipper Saurabh Tiwari, who had scored 16 runs.
He later surpassed Yusuf Pathan’s record of nine sixes for West Zone against North Zone (2010), to record the most sixes in an innings in the tournament’s history. In List A cricket, Parag now has four centuries under his belt, in addition to seven fifty-pluses. His highest score in the format is 174.
The 21-year-old has since scored nearly 1,450 runs at a 36+ average in 45 List-A games. He has 96 wickets. He has returned with 43 wickets at an economy of 4.88 thanks to his leg-break bowling. Apart from Parag, Kushagra played a brilliant inning of 98 runs in 87 balls. This was his highest individual score in List-A cricket. On the other hand, Mayank Yadav and Harshit Rana managed to take 3 wickets from North Zone.
The all-rounder from Assam was also a part of the Emerging Asia Cup 2023, he was pretty handy with the ball in the whole tournament. He produced a potentially match-winning spell in the Emerging Asia Cup 2023 final against Pakistan. India were handed a 128 runs defeat by their arch-rivals with the courtesy of Tayyab Tahir’s exceptional hundred in the final.
