Mumbai Indians have strengthened their chances of playoffs in IPL 2023 after they defeated the defending champions Gujarat Titans by 27 runs in match number 57 of the season at the Wankhede Stadium. Batting first, MI posted a huge total of 218 for the loss of 5 wickets, powered by the maiden IPL ton by Suryakumar Yadav. In reply, GT were restricted to 191 runs losing 8 wickets.

MI had a flying start as the skipper Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan added 61 runs for the first wicket in 6.1 overs. Rohit got out after scoring 29 runs off 18 balls hitting three fours and two sixes. While a couple of deliveries later, Kishan also lost his wicket after scoring 31 off 20 balls hitting four fours and a maximum as Rashid Khan struck twice in the same over.

After that, Suryakumar Yadav took charge of the innings as he went to smash his maiden IPl century. He added 65 runs with Vishnu Vinod for the fourth wicket. Vinod got out after scoring 30 runs off 20 balls hitting two fours and two sixes. After that, Surykamar took the innings further as he remained unbeaten on 103 runs off just 49 balls hitting 11 fours and six sixes.

Suryakumar smashed a six on the last ball of the innings to reach the triple-figure. His innings helped MI to go past 210 runs. For GT, Rashid Khan scalped 4 wickets by conceding 30 runs in his four overs. While Mohit Sharma put 1 in his bag.

Chasing the winning total, GT had a disastrous start as they lost 5 wickets for just 55 runs in 7.1 overs. After that, Rahul Tewatia and David Miller tried to take the innings further by adding 45 runs for the sixth wicket. Miller got out in the 12th over after scoring 41 runs off 26 balls hitting four fours and two sixes. In the very next over, Tewatia lost his wicket in the very next over after scoring 14 off 13 balls.

After that, Rashid Khan took charge of the innings and prevented MI to register a big victory against his team. The 24-year-old remained unbeaten after smashing 79 runs off just 32 balls hitting three fours and 10 sixes. However, GT still fell short of 27 runs from MI’s total. Akash Madhwal scalped 3 wickets by conceding 31 runs in his four overs. While Piyush Chawla and Kumar Kartikeya took 2-2 wickets each, and Jason Behrendorff put 1 in his bag
