The teams from Group A, Zimbabwe and USA are currently clashing against each other in the 17th match of the 50-over World Cup qualifiers 2023 at the Harare Sports Club in Harare on Monday, June 26. Zimbabwe are super confident after a thrilling win over West Indies by 35 runs on Saturday, June 24.

Meanwhile, during the first innings, Zimbabwe’s veteran batter Sean Williams, who is leading the side in Craig Ervine’s absence, displayed an outstanding batting performance. He smashed a magnificent century off just balls and didn’t just stop there as he played a brilliant knock of 174 runs off 101 deliveries which included 21 fours and 5 sixes.

Asked to bat first, Williams helped Zimbabwe to score their highest-ever ODI total and it was also the most USA have ever conceded. USA's fielding was horrible from the start as they dropped numerous catches and misfielded throughout the innings. Apart from Williams, opener Joylord Gumbie also played well with a decent knock of 78 runs.

It's amazing what can happen if you continue to dream big: Sean Williams

Quickfire innings from Sikandar Raza and Ryan Burl helped Zimbabwe to achieve a monumental total of 408 runs. Surprisingly, Zimbabwe have also surpassed Pakistan when it comes to the highest total in the ODI format. The highest total ever in this format by Pakistan is 399/1, which they coincidentally achieved in a match against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo in July 2018. Williams talked about his knock in the post-innings interview and said that it was a good wicket to bat.

"It was a fantastic wicket. The way we started out there, it was a little slow, so we thought if we could pick the intensity up against the spinners, we could see where we go from there. Like I said at the beginning, we play to win regardless of which team we are playing and that shows it all. I'm looking to play the ball as late as I can and visualising it going to the boundary. It's amazing what can happen if you continue to dream big."
