Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) clashed against each other in the 23rd match of the Indian Premier League 2023 on Sunday, April 16 at the Narendra Modi Stadium In Ahmedabad. RR registered their 4th win of the season by defeating GT by 3 wickets in front of their home crowd.

Talking about the match, RR won the toss and invited GT to put runs on the scoreboard. Batting first, GT lost Wriddhiman Saha in the very first over, but the Titans steadied the ship, thereafter. Sai Sudharsan was run out by Jos Buttler, but Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill put on a fine partnership, following that.

Gill missed out on his fifty as he was caught at long-off against Sandeep Sharma. David Miller, who was dropped by Adam Zampa early in his innings, went on to score 46 runs as well. Abhinav Manohar struck a few big sixes as well. With the help of his breathtaking knock, GT managed to achieve a fighting total of 177 runs. Sandeep Sharma was the pick of the bowlers as he took a couple of wickets and conceded only 25 runs.

A brilliant all-round performance by RR

Chasing the target, RR had a horrible start as they lost both their openers in the powerplay for just 4 runs. However, later, RR skipper Sanju Samson and Devdutt Padikkal steadied the innings but the latter was playing at a slow strike rate and departed after scoring 26 runs off 25 deliveries.

Riyan Parag had another forgettable day with the bat, but Samson stood tall. He took on the main wicket-taker Rashid and came out smiling, as he smashed three consecutive sixes off him. Shimron Hetmyer, at the other end augmented his reputation as a finisher by taking on Alzarri Joseph. In the end, Ravichandran Ashwin smashed Mohammed Shami for a six and a four. The equation was down to 7 off the last over and Hetmyer smoked one over cow corner to ensure RR finally get the better of GT.
