India are in a dicey position at the moment in the World Test Championship (WTC) final going into the fifth day at The Oval on Sunday. After Australia secured a 173-run lead in the first innings, they declared on 270-8 in the second innings. This meant that India were given a target of 444 runs to chase to win the WTC final. The Indian Test team ended Day 4 at 164-3.
India were off to a fast start with 41 runs coming in seven overs. As India were chugging along, disaster struck on the first ball of the ninth over when Scott Boland found the outside edge off Gill and then was caught by Cameron Green at gully for 18 off 19 balls. There was some apprehension about whether the catch was clean or not but after the third umpire Richard Kettleborough saw numerous replays multiple times, he gave Gill out.
I definitely thought I caught it, there was no sign of doubt: Cameron Green
Shubman Gill's anger knew no bounds when he felt he was wrongly given out by the third umpire Richard Kettlebourgh He even took a potshot at the third umpire when he felt he was wrongly given out caught by Cameron Green at Gully. After the decision was made, the Indian players were not happy with how things panned out. Rohit Sharma was very angry with Kettleborough's call.

The Indian fans at the Oval, then directed chants at Green calling him a cheat. Gill then put out a screenshot of the catch, going by the shared visuals, it looks like the ball may have touched the ground. When it came to Green, he was very assertive that he took a clean catch.
“I definitely thought I caught it”, said the 24-year-old on Gill’s catch. "In the heat of the moment, I thought it was clean, threw it up and obviously showed no sign of any doubt. Then it’s left up to the third umpire and he agreed.” Green was quoted as saying by First Post.
“It should have been checked better, zoomed in, but it’s okay, it’s part of the game. It is all about the umpires. They take a call,” Mohammed Shami said when he was asked to give his take on the matter.

We need good innings when it is required the most. Travis and Smith’s innings on day 1 tough wicket is the kind of innings we need. Not only Gill, Rohit and Pujara need some kicking 🦵 for their poor shot selection. It is a good wicket to bat on, atleast we need competition

That's kiddish. The world is seeing. He should not speak of it by himself. Yeah, he was robbed, but that's a part of the game. At times, he ll be let off the hook too, but in this case, the benefit of doubt should have gone to the batsman.

Yes very hard decision. A big innings here would've boosted his confidence.

But he has to refrain from posting such things.
Very soon he might get a decision in his favor, so he can't cry foul that time.
The game is long, he just started.
Dock 50% of Gill’s match fee for this unsportsmanlike conduct. Against the spirit of the game. #INDvAUS #WTC2023 #WTC2023Final
