Both batters were well set but failed to reach their fifty and were dismissed on 38 and 31 runs respectively. KL Rahul was the standout among the batters as the wicket-keeper batter is going through the form of his life. He was on 70 runs at the end of Day 1 and started Day 2 brilliantly, the batter scored the majority of his runs in boundaries. The Karntaka-born batter was out on 101 runs hitting 14 fours and 4 sixes. He built valuable partnerships with Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj while having the majority of the strike. His partnership with Siraj for the 9th wicket was the second-highest for the side.

Coming to bat the hosts lost the wicket of Aiden Markram early, but later Dean Elgar and Tony de Zorzi built a partnership of 93 runs for the second wicket. The latter was dismissed by Jasorit Bumrah and then Keegan Petersen also went back early leaving them 113/3.

Dean Elgar shines on Day 2

Elgar was the standout as the wickets kept on falling from the other end. The left-handed opener scored his 14th Test hundred in 140 deliveries, hitting 20 fours. He is playing his last series and what better ending than a hundred in the farewell series of the 36-year-old batter.
