India's dream of winning a Test series in South Africa remains a dream as the Men in Blue have lost the 1st Test match by an innings and 32 runs. Virat Kohli who was the star for the second innings for the side has been in sensational form in the current year. The former India captain has been the face of Indian cricket over the last decade. He has created and surpassed several records in the cricketing fraternity over the last few years. 

The batter previously became the 2nd Indian batter after Sachin Tendulkar to complete 7,000 runs in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia) in international cricket. He achieved the milestone while batting in the 2nd innings against the Proteas. Now he has achieved another feat by becoming the first ever batter to score 2000+ runs in 7 different calendar years. He has scored (2186 runs in 2012, 2286 runs in 2014, 2595 in  2016, 2818 runs in 2017, 2735 runs in 2018, 2455 runs in 2019, 2048 in 2023). The former India captain is having a dream year of his career.  

He was the highest run-scorer in the ODI World Cup 2023 with 765 runs in 11 matches and scoring 3 centuries in the process, though India lost the final against Australia, he was announced as the player of the tournament for his amazing display of batting. He even surpassed Sachin's 49 ODI century record as he scored the 50th one in the semi-final against New Zealand. 

Kohli - the best batter of this generation

The 35-year-old has 1786 runs to his name across format in South Africa from 35 innings, averaging 57.61 with five hundred and nine fifties. Tendulkar had scored 1724 runs in 51 innings at an average of 35.91 with six hundreds and four fifties. Among the 1786 runs, 833 have come in Tests in 16 innings at an average of 52.06 with two centuries and four fifties.

Kohli has smashed 898 in 16 innings ODIs, averaging 74.83 with three centuries and five fifties. In T20Is, he has 55 runs from three innings at a strike rate of 125. India will be hosting England for a 5-match test series and Kohli will be hoping to score some runs there as well.
