UP-W vs GUJ-W WPL 2024

A warrior innings by Grace Harris and UP Warriorz pocketed their second win of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024. They started their campaign with two defeats but have now registered back-to-back wins to sit third in the points table. Harris' heroic knock led Warriorz to a comprehensive six-wicket win against Gujarat Giants, who are yet to open their account in the tournament.

Giants were denied an early advantage after losing the toss and inserted into bat first at Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, captain Beth Mooney and Laura Wolvaardt got the team off to a strong start. The duo added 40 runs in 5.2 overs before Sophie Ecclestone applied the break on Giants's scoring with Mooney's wicket.

Wolvaardt and Harleen Deol were sent packing in quick succession and the scoreboard was reading 83/3 in 12.6 overs. Giants looked set to end up with an embarrassing total, but Phoebe Litchfield and Ashleigh Gardner came to the rescue. A fine performance by the two Australians took their team score to a respectable 142, but was still below par.

Grace Harris - Deepti Sharma combo do the needful for UP yet again

In reply, skipper Alyssa Healy and Kiran Navgire got off to a strong start but both were dismissed in consecutive overs during the powerplay. Chamari Athapaththu could only spend a little time at the crease, but she made sure she spent some valuable time there. Shweta Sehrawat was the only Gaints' batter who struggled to make an impact and her torrid time ended with 2 runs from 7 balls.

With four wickets down, UP smelled a comeback but Harris and Deepti Sharma had other plans. Both were match-winners for their team in the last match and they did it this time as well. Harris smashed a quick-fire 60* runs off just 33 balls while Deepti gave excellent support at the other end by scoring 17* off 14 balls. The two remained unbeaten and took UP home in the 16th over.
