Although Sanju Samson has always shown high standards in the Indian Premier League (IPL), he has often failed to replicate the same with Team India. But it is notable that he has not been getting consistent runs with the Men in Blue since his international debut in 2015. However, with the senior players rested, Sanju got to play in the recently concluded ODI and T20I series against the West Indies, but he did not live up to expectations.

The right-handed batter shone when given the chance to bat at No. 4 in the final ODI, scoring a half-century in India's massive win. But in the subsequent T20I series, he played at No. 5 or 6 all three times he batted and he was unable to produce a good innings. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that Samson needs to bat up the order to bring out the best in him.

"You will have to bat Sanju Samson up the order if you have to get the best out of him, irrespective of the format. You will be able to do justice to his talent only if you can bat him up the order. Maybe a very similar case with Rohit Sharma," Chopra opined in a video shared on his YouTube channel.

Today's potential will be converted to performance tomorrow: Chopra

The former India opener observed that Samson is best suited to bat in the top order like Indian captain Rohit Sharma. He also pointed out that Rohit has not been at his best when batting in the middle order, but has started to excel after he was moved up the order across formats.

"When Rohit Sharma plays, he plays so beautifully and this was his story earlier as well. His numbers were not that good at the start but the team persisted. It seemed like the guy had a lot of potential and that today's potential will be converted to performance tomorrow," he said.

While admitting that Samson might not get a chance to bat in the top order given the current scenario, he said that trying to get him to succeed in the lower middle order might not yield the desired result.

"I feel we are trying to make him succeed in the lower-middle order but the chances are slightly less because all his numbers due to which he gets selected are either as an opener or at No. 3. His numbers have never been good at No. 4 or lower," he added.
