Has Shivam Dube secured place in T20I squad for upcoming T20 World Cup 2024?

India had won the 1st T20I against Afghanistan on Thursday. The Men in Blue showed brilliant dominance with the bat and ball. Shivam Dube was the star for the Men in Blue with bat and ball. He picked up bowling and had taken one wicket in 2 overs giving out 9 runs. Dube was more brilliant with the bat as the all-rounder was not out till the end with the score of 60 runs off 40 balls, smashing 2 sixes and five boundaries, he played a knock under pressure when batters got out early and got support from the others. 

Dube's recent performance has generated speculation about his participation in India's 2024 T20 World Cup squad. The batter in the 2023 Indian Premier League gave an upgraded version of himself to make a spectacular return with Chennai Super Kings, hitting 411 runs at a strike rate of 159.92, including explosive middle-over batting.

Seeing his current form and performances former players like, Suresh Raina, Aakash Chopra, and Irfan Pathan have even compared Dube's chances of being featured in India's preparations for the 2024 T20 World Cup. The major event is set to take place in the United States and the West Indies in June 2024 and he might question the selectors with the performances he is having in the recent format of the game.

I was waiting for my opportunity: Shivam Dube 

He said in the post-match interaction on Jio Cinemas, "I was really waiting for my opportunity in bowling. I finally got it today and performed well." Suresh Raina, who was part of the discussion, added: "Mahi bhai dekha abhi, Chennai me iska teen over pakke hain (Dhoni just saw his performance and is hence guaranteed three overs of bowling in Chennai)." Dube burst into laughter before making a request to Dhoni saying, “Mahi bhai, sun lo aap (Dhoni, please listen to this)." 

With a left-hander needed in the middle order, he might be in serious contention for the mega event. A lot will be dependent on his IPL 2024 performance with the Yellow Army.
