The news of Mumbai Indians naming Hardik Pandya as their captain for the IPL 2024 broke the internet. The fans of Rohit Sharma were distraught by the news, as they were angry about the decision of MI. They reacted to it in a way many thought to have. The fans started to unfollow the official page of the franchise on various social media platforms. 

Hardik Pandya was attacked with trolls, abuses, and what not. Some of the Rohit fans expressed their anger by burning the jersey, flag, and cap of Mumbai Indians. There has been a huge outrage over the issue, as fans did not want Rohit to be snubbed the way he was by MI. After what Rohit did to the franchise all these years, fans expected MI to be grateful to the Indian star cricketer. 

Mumbai Indians announced the news on their social media account. After that, they sent a post congratulating Rohit for his achievements and contribution to the side. "We express our gratitude to Rohit Sharma for his exceptional leadership; his tenure as the captain of the Mumbai Indians since 2013 has been nothing short of extraordinary," wrote Mumbai Indians on Instagram.

"His leadership has not only brought unparalleled success to the team but has also solidified his place as one of the finest captains in the history of the IPL," added the statement of MI. Now reports claim the reason behind MI's move to name Hardik the new captain. It has been understood that Hardik asked the captaincy of MI in order to rejoin them. As a result, Mumbai was forced to name Hardik the captain. 

Hardik had a good time with Gujarat Titans in the last 2 seasons of the IPL. In 2022, Hardik helped GT to win their maiden title on debut. In 2023, GT entered the final of the season and nearly won it. The captaincy of Hardik is unquestionable. But the fans are not happy with the way the former captain of GT demanded the captaincy.
