5 players DC can target in IPL 2024 auction

Delhi Capitals (DC) has been one of the most formidable sides on paper in the Indian Premier League (IPL), but they failed to make an impact on the field. DC qualified for the final of the Mega League once, eventually losing to Mumbai Indians (MI). They had a dismal performance in the previous edition of the league as they finished in the bottom half of the points table. Rishabh Pant their regular captain was missing from the last season due to a fatal accident he suffered. The wicket-keeper batter will be returning to the side in the 2024 auction.

The Delhi franchise has released 11 players in the retention window which is the second most by any team. They would like to add some firepower to their squad, in the auction and rebuild the side once again. DC has 9 slots left out of which, they can pick 4 overseas players. They have Rs. 28.98 crore left in the bag.

The IPL mini-auction is scheduled on December 19 in Dubai this is the first instance that the auction is hosted outside the country and there will be a live audience present to witness their star players going under the hammer. Here are 5 players DC might target in the auction

5. Umesh Yadav

Umesh Yadav will be one of the players whom DC would like to add to their squad. The pacer has a lot of experience playing in the IPL and will be effective with the new ball as well. He started his IPL career with Capitals and then moved to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). With the experience of more than 100 games in the toughest league in the world. He will be a good Indian fast-bowling option for the side as they have released some of them.

4. Shardul Thakur

Shardul Thakur was part of the DC squad in the year 2022 and then he was traded to KKR for an amount of 10.75 crore INR. He failed to have an impact on the franchise and eventually, they released him, DC would love to have him as the Delhi pitch which is relatively slower can help the bowling all-rounder. He has some deceptive cutters and slower ones which the batters might not be able to read on the slow pitch of Delhi and he can give some batting to the lower down to the order as well.

3. Lockie Ferguson

Lockie Ferguson is another option for DC as they faced many issues in its pace department last season. Although they have the option of pacers like Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi, Khaleel Ahmed, and Mukesh Kumar, they can go after Ferguson in the IPL 2024 auction to have maximum options in the pace department as Nortje and Nigidi both the pacers are very injured prone and he can be a good backup for the side as well.

2. Josh Inglis

Josh Inglis, the explosive wicket-keeper batter has been in good form in white-ball cricket. He has shown a good ability to play spin and pace equally well. Inglis would be an obvious choice as they do not have any backup wicket-keeping option, for Rishabh Pant, and as per the reports Pant will be playing as an impact player considering that the Aussie batter will be good but for them, as they have good money left as well.

1. Daryl Mitchell

Daryl Mitchell would be the best choice by the franchise as they have released middle-order batters like  Manish Pandey, Rilee Rossouw, Rovman Powell, and Sarfaraz Khan. They need a middle-order batter who can anchor the innings and play explosive shots as well when required. He is a sensational player of spin. He is a flexible batter who can bat anywhere in the middle order if required he can also give two overs with the ball, especially in Delhi, where the tracks are slow and sluggish he can be effective with the ball as well.
