Reports: Women's Premier League 2024 is likely to be held in Mumbai and Bengaluru

After the first successful season of the  Women's Premier League (WPL) in 2023, the second edition of the league is scheduled to start in February 2024. According to the reports, the games are likely in Bengaluru and Mumbai. With five franchises taking part in the tournament. Although the official announcement is yet to come. 

The competition's match format will remain the same as it was in the first season, with the five teams competing in a double round-robin style before the top three teams proceed to the knockouts. The winner of the table will move directly to the final, while the other two teams will compete in the Eliminator. Previously it was decided that WPL 2024 would use the same home-and-away format as the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, as per the report, the competition will be in these two cities.

The Indian Cricket Board, announced a list of players, with the five WPL teams retaining 60 and releasing 29 players. According to reports, there will be an auction in December where teams will be re-arrange and add players to their squad. In the last season, all the matches were played in Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai and DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Mumbai champions of the first season

The Mumbai Indians defeated the Delhi Capitals in the final match in Mumbai to become the tournament's first winners. The Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Giants had a dismal season, finishing fourth and fifth in the points standings, respectively. The winning team, Mumbai Indians, was awarded a monetary prize of 5 crore.

The Delhi Capitals, who were the runners-up, received 3 crore INR. Mumbai Indians were the first Women's Premier League (WPL) champions. Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur termed the trophy a "dream" after her team defeated Delhi Capitals by seven wickets at Wankhede Stadium. Jio Cinema will be the broadcaster for the tournament as they have taken three years to broadcast it. The second edition will be even bigger and better.
