Team India are currently hosting Afghanistan for a 3-match T20I series, this is the Men in Blue's last white-ball series ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 that is scheduled in June. Their star batter Virat Kohli missed the first game of the series as he had to rush back home due to some family emergency. With his return to the side, there will be a question that who will be dropped from the playing XI.

Shubman Gill who played a small innings in the first innings might be excluded from the squad alongside Tilak Verma who also might also be snubbed. With Yashasvi Jaiswal might come in and Virat will play at his usual No.3 position. Kohli last played a T20I for India at the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup. Kohli featured in the game India were outplayed by England in the semi-finals at the time.

The former India captain is eager to make a comeback in the shortest format of the game, with the World Cup approaching the Men in Blue will be hoping that his 2023 form continues and he leads India to their second T20 World Cup this year.

Virat Kohli’s contribution as an opener has been immense: Parthiv Patel

Parthiv Patel told JioCinema ahead of the 2nd match in Indore, "Virat Kohli’s contribution as an opener has been immense. Whenever he has played as an opener for India in T20 cricket, he has scored a lot of runs. He can set the tone of the innings. If he gets an opportunity to face those 120 balls, he can create that chance to get big runs."

Saba Karim, also said, "I am looking at Virat Kohli at No. 3, keeping in mind that the T20 World Cup is to be played in the West Indies and the USA. In the West Indies, India will be playing on slow wickets in the Super 8s. There you need someone who can control the entire innings. I think Rohit Sharma is backing Virat Kohli to play that role there."
