It was a welcome sight for Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid during the second Test vs England. Young Shubman Gill scored his third Test century in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. The 24-year-old has been woefully out of form in the previous few games for India.

With repeated failures there were questions about his place in the team. There were murmurs of Pujara being given a re-call to the side to replace Gill. On Sunday, the doubters and critics were silenced with equal measure as the youngster signaled his return to form.

It wasn’t easy for Shubman Gill as he had to survive two close confident calls early in the morning. Tom Hartley’s loud appeal was met with the affirmative by the umpire. When the DRS was taken it was seen that Gill had got a thick edge onto the bat. hubman

Gill storms to his third Test century –

After surviving the early close call there was yet another loud appeal against Shubman Gill. This time James Anderson went up in appeal and Ben Stokes sent the decision upstairs. Once the replays came it was seen that the decision was Umpire’s call and the youngster lived to fight.

Once he got his eye in, there was no looking back for Shubman Gill as he mixed caution with aggression. After seeing out the early spell of James Anderson, India found runs coming at a good pace.

It was Shubman Gill who used his feet well against the spinners to put them under pressure. The home team had lost four wickets before lunch to give England a slight sniff back into the game.

The moment arrived in the fourth ball of the 52 over when Gill just placed the ball towards the square region. With the single taken off Shoaib Bashir, the entire stadium erupted as the 24-year-old took off his helmet.

This was the third Test century for the right-handed batter from Punjab as heaved a sigh of relief. At the time of writing, India were placed at 203/4 with a lead of 346 with Gill on 101 and Axar Patel on 33.
