Lahore Qalandars faced their fifth consecutive defeat in the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2024 with a defeat against Peshawar Zalmi by a narrow margin of 8 runs in the 12th match of the tournament. Both teams played this match at the Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore on Sunday, February 12.

The hosts’ skipper Shaheen Afridi won the toss and asked Peshawar Zalmi to bat first. Batting first, Zalmi posted a big total of 211 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Young opener Saim Ayub played a blistering knock of 88 runs off just 55 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes. 

Besides him, skippers Babar Azam and Rovman Powell also played crucial knocks of 48 and 46 runs, respectively. On the back of these knocks, the visitors managed to go past 200+ total and score 211 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the first innings.

The Qalandars’ skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi scalped 3 wickets for his side, alongside one wicket picked by Jahandad Khan.

While chasing the target, Shaheen’s men gave a tough fight but they still fell 9 runs short of the target and lost the match by a margin of 8 runs to face their 5th successive defeat in the ongoing season of the Pakistan Super League.

It was Rassie van der Dussen who fight lonely for his side and played a swashbuckling knock of 104 runs off just 52 balls, with 7 fours and 6 sixes, with an explosive strike rate of 200.00. However, his knock went in vain as none of the other batters crossed the individual mark of 100+ runs.
