South Africa defeated India in the first test by an innings and 32 runs at the Supersport Park, Centurion. The Men in Blue had no answer to the Proteas pace bowling attack. The second innings lasted just 34.1 overs and KL Rahul and Virat Kohli were the two performers for the side in two different innings. Their dream of winning the Test series will continue as they have failed to win in the last 31 years.

Kohli scored 76 off 82 balls, and no other batter stepped up for the visitors in the second innings, in the first, KL Rahul had smashed an impressive 101 but lacked support from the other end. Former Proteas pacer Allan Donald, talking about India's poor outing in the first Test, made a significant remark on Sachin Tendulkar's achievements on South African soil.

Tendulkar is the only batter who has scored four Test centuries in five tours to the country. He has scored over a thousand runs in South Africa in Tests. With 1161 runs in 15 Tests, he is the second-highest run-getter in the Rainbow Nation. In total, he has 5 tons and three fifties in the Proteas soil.

The only person I know who played us well was Tendulkar: Allan Donald

Donald said, "The only person I know who played us well was Tendulkar, who triggered (had a trigger movement) while batting in South Africa rather than stand on the middle stump. He pressed forward and left the ball amazingly well. If you leave the ball well here, you can score runs. You got to get bowlers to come to you and search a little bit more. They start coming to you, and the opportunities of scoring get better. It's an interesting phenomenon as it's tough to bat. In Cape Town though, it will be a very good Test pitch. It will flatten out quickly, so you need to work very hard."

India's batting failed comprehensively as no batter except the above-mentioned two was able to score past 40 runs on the green wicket of Centurion. The batters would like to make a better impact and win the 2nd Test that is scheduled on January 3 in Cape Town.
