It has been two days since the end of IPL Mini Auction 2024 but the analysis doesn’t seem to stop. Sri Lankan cricket star Wanindu Hasaranga had entered the bidding process yet again.

The 26-year-old Sri Lankan star was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the auction process. Sunrisers Hyderabad picked the Sri Lankan star for a measly amount of INR 1.5 Crores.

As Sunrisers Hyderabad basks in the glory of a smart deal, other teams could have gone in for Hasaranga. In this article, we take a closer look at the three teams that could have targeted the Sri Lankan star during the IPL Mini Auctions 2024.

Mumbai Indians –

IPL2

Despite picking Shreyas Gopal during the latter stages of IPL Mini Auction 2024, Mumbai Indians have missed a trick. The five-time IPL winners needed a proper spinner to form a lethal partnership with Piyush Chawla.

The veteran Indian spinner was the only potent threat for MI last season and was looking for a wicket-taking bowler at the other end. Had Wanindu Hasaranga signed for Mumbai Indians it would have made the men in blue and gold certain contenders for the IPL title.

Royal Challengers Bangalore –

IPL3

It seems releasing Wanindu Hasaranga has come back to bite Royal Challengers Bangalore hard. Faf Du Plessis will head into the new season without a frontline spinner in the side. Will Jacks and Mahipal Lomror are more of batting all-rounders while Karn Sharma has played for the RCB unit.

Without the experience and guile of Wanindu Hasaranga, RCB might find it difficult in the middle-overs. Bangalore is known to be a batting-friendly venue and without a quality spinner many fans think that RCB has missed a trick.

Lucknow Super Giants –

IPL4

While many will find LSG as a team packed with quality spinners, Wanindu Hasaranga would have made it strong. Amit Mishra is already 42–years old and isn’t getting any younger. Krunal Pandya on the other hasn’t been the same bowler since he left the Mumbai Indians team.

Wanindu Hasaranga would have been a lethal bowler in the slow and turning wickets at the Ekana Stadium. Along with Ravi Bishnoi, the LSG unit could have built a great spin combination. KL Rahul could have opted for a three-man spin attack to make LSG a really dangerous side during the IPL 2024 season.
